Understanding the dynamics of the Milky Way

The main focus of my PhD has been to investigate the contribution of infalling satellite galaxies towards the total observed vertical heating of the Milky Way. This has been achieved with the aid of high-resolution N-body simulations performed using dark matter subhalo distributions extracted from zoom-in cosmological simulations of Milky Way-like systems.
